Eden Beach – Only Blue flag Tag beach in Pondicherry (Puducherry)
Eden Beach Pondicherry (Puducherry) is a newly developed beach by the government of Pondicherry compared to other beaches in Pondicherry. The Denmark-based non-profit Foundation has awarded Eden Beach a blue flag tag beach for Environmental Education or FEE.
Blue Flag beaches are the cleanest beaches globally, eco-friendly, and have all the amenities tourists need. In India, only ten beaches are given the Blue flag Tag; Eden Beach in Pondicherry is one of them. So, getting the blue tag for Eden Beach is a proud moment for the Pondicherry people.

How to reach?
Eden Beach is located in Chinna Veerampatinam, around 10 km from Pondicherry’s White town. If you plan to go to Paradise Beach, Eden Beach is on the way and is just a 2-3km detour. I suggest the following routes for Eden Beach: Ariyankuppam – Veerampatinam Road- Chinna Veerampatinam – Eden Beach. This road will be better than the other route via Manaveli (near the Ariyankuppam police station). Streets close (100 meters approx.) to Eden Beach will be narrow. It would be best to have a car or a bike to reach here since the public transport is minimal.

Bus Facility:
One bus operates from Pondicherry Bus stand to China Veerampatinam.
Parking Facility:
Eden Beach has ample parking space for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. So, you don’t need to worry about parking like in White Town. You must walk a few meters from the parking area to reach Eden Beach.
Eden Beach:
The path towards Eden Beach from parking itself is an experience where you can see coconut plantations on the backwaters of the Chunnambar River. I can’t blame you if you get a vibe of Alappuzha backwaters. Locations of the backwaters resemble little Alappuzha.
There is no entrance fee at this time. Eden beach map at the beach entrance will give a better picture of the facilities available at Eden Beach.
The Arch at the entrance of Eden Beach welcomes you. It was built recently with sit-outs. You can enjoy the beach view from the Arch in the early morning or evening. They have umbrella huts everywhere to get the much-needed shadow if you visit on a sunny day.
Beaches here are super clean with white sand, which is rare nowadays. You can walk up to the estuary of the Chunnambar River. Another side of the estuary is Paradise Beach and Sandunes Beaches. As you know, you need to pay for the boat ride to reach Paradise Beach.
On the Chunnambar River and in the backwaters of Eden Beach, fishermen go fishing in the early morning. It is one of the birding hot spots; during the migratory season from October to March, you may encounter rare birds like oystercatchers, Pacific golden plovers, little terns, northern pintails and many shorebirds. Resident birds like herons and egrets can usually be if you have an eye for birds.
Eden Beach has children’s playing area where the kids can play and enjoy themselves. They have fitness equipment for adults and early morning visitors who can try this.
Facilities:
Eden Beach has an 800-meter-long safe swimming zone with lifeguards who will monitor you. It is always advisable not to venture too deep into the sea for safety, as Pondicherry beaches always have unpredictable currents. The beach has a greywater treatment plant and a solid waste management plant.
This beach has washrooms, bathrooms and toilets for tourists. They have the same facilities for persons with disabilities, which you don’t see on other beaches. Since it is an Eco-friendly and sustainable beach, they focused on it remarkably. They tried to use bamboo wherever possible, from toilets to dustbins. Even the umbrella huts were made from natural products like coconut thatch roofs.
They were very keen on not disturbing the environment and, at the same time, providing the necessary facilities for the tourists. Solar panels were installed at Eden Beach to minimize the dependency on electricity from other sources. Overall it will be a different experience for the tourists visiting here. As far as possible, stop littering and leave your footmarks on the beaches, nothing else.
Eateries:
Shops are located near the parking facilities, which is understandable for maintaining a clean beach. If you need snacks, I suggest you grab your snacks before entering Eden Beach.
