Ruby Beach in Pondicherry is located in Veerampatinam, around 10kms from the white town. Road connectivity to this beach is excellent compared to other beaches. The Government of Pondicherry developed ruby Beach in Pondicherry to encourage beach tourism, and private firms handle it now.

How to reach Ruby beach:

From White town, head south towards Cuddalore road; you need to take a slight left at the Murungapakkam Bridge, where the road goes to ariyankuppam. You need to turn left at Ariyankuppam and move towards Veerampattinam temple. From veerampattinam, you must take a left to continue towards Ruby Beach. There are few extra speed breakers compared to a normal road, but it is worth it.

Ruby Beach:

Ruby Beach is a new beach developed by the Government of Pondicherry. It has recently started, so the shops and adventure activities are slowly coming up after the covid shut down. Currently, there is a restaurant running from morning to evening and a resto-bar, which started functioning in the past two months.

Adventure Activities:

Indian Flying Force Company recently started Para motoring Joy Rides and ATV rides at Ruby Beach. Ruby Beach has lawns for parties and other functions, where the locals can book it. In the coming future, there will be a lot of adventure activities and food stalls that are going to come up.

Long Beaches:

One of the attractions of Ruby Beach in Pondicherry is the long beach with pure white sand without any dirt, which is rare to see. Beaches here are pretty long; it will take a few minutes from the road to the sea. ATV rides happen on this beautiful beach. They have shacks for the tourists to sit and relax. It is less crowded than other beaches, and you can have a good time at Ruby Beach.

On the left side of the beach, there is a road which goes to the mouth of the river, where the river joins the sea. You can walk till the end to have a good view of the lighthouse, Pondicherry harbour etc.

Wooden Tent Houses:

Wooden tent houses are under construction on Ruby beach. It will be facing the beach and surrounded by greenery. These elevated wooden tent houses will be ready in the coming months for visitors.

Other attractions:

Shri Chengani Amman Temple at Veerampatinam

This temple is on the way to Ruby Beach, just a few hundred meters away. It is very famous and has a rich heritage. Temple faces the sea, and the veerampatinam temple festival is very famous. The Festival goes on for six days, and it happens in August. Every year the Governor and Chief Minister of Pondicherry inaugurate the Temple car festival. Government declare local holidays for schools and colleges. Devotees from all over India drag the chariot during the festival day.

Arikamedu:

Arikamedu is a historical place located on the west side of ruby beach. It is an archaeological site maintained by the Archaeological Society of India. Arikamedu holds important evidence of India’s ancient relations with the rest of the world. Aricamedu was so famous that Rome’s had trades here. Archaeologists found the roman lamp, stone beads, gems, cutlery, crockery, wine containers etc. You can see these collections in Pondicherry Museum.
