Street Foods in Pondicherry

Pondicherry has plenty of good restaurants for formal people, but if you are ready to hit the streets and try some informal street foods of Pondicherry, this list will help you to satisfy your taste buds. Please note that these are street food shops, so plan your parking space accordingly. Two-wheelers will be best for exploring street foods in Pondicherry.

1. Nizam Soup Shop

Nizam soup shop is famous for mutton soup and mutton samosa. Open only in the evenings from 6 pm to 10 pm.

2. Sharma Pani Poori shop

Sharma pani puri shop is famous for Masala Puri and Dahi Puri. Masala Puri will be hot and spicy. They do have Pani Puri, Sev Puri and Sweet Puri.

3. Sri Sai Ram Coffee Bar

As the name suggests, this shop is famous for traditional South Indian filter coffee. Try your next coffee at Sri Sai Ram Coffee Bar. Tea and Snacks are average here. 

4. RK Juice Center

RK Juice Center is famous for Sarbath, especially their Paal (Milk) Sarbath. They do have Nannari Sarbath, Soda Sarbath, Rose Milk etc.

5. Southern Boulevard street shops

The southern boulevard of the white town from the end of Dumas Street to Suffren Street has so many street shops to try for. Triple C Chicken Shop is famous for chicken popcorn. Bullet chicken, Chef on the Wheels, and OH BBQ are local favourites. Boneless Fish BBQ is a must-try at OH BBQ.

6. XOXOPOPS

Xoxopops is famous for fresh, handcrafted popsicles. Most of the popsicles are fruit-based, and seasonal fruits will be used. Shops are located in a colourful eyepopping Nanocar and are usually parked near Bharathi Park on the southern side of the Mother Teresa statue. 

7. Fresh plates of seafood at Serenity Beach

If you are a seafood lover and don’t mind sitting on the beach roads to relish the freshly prepared fish fry, prawns gravy, and crabs, then this place is for you. Out of all the stores at Serenity Beach, Selviamma Home Food Shop is the most well-known.

8. Mithai Mandir

Mithai Mandir is known for sweets and chats. They have a small eatery on the first floor where they serve snacks. You should try their Kachori, Jalebi, and Badam Milk. 

9. Famous Thatha Sundal (Behind Promenade Hotel)

Thatha Sundal is the most iconic street food I can remember in Pondicherry. Now 3rd Generation is selling Sundal (Green gram mashed with mango toppings) with the same taste.

10. Shakeela Nei Parotta

Shakeela Nei Parotta is famous for nei (ghee) parotta and gravy. This family has been making this Nei Parotta for more than three decades. Try their Nei Parotta and chicken gravy. Takeaway is recommended since they have less space.
