Hidesign hotels in Pondicherry are very famous, like their international leather brand. Dilip Kapur, the founder of Hidesign, has various leather products like bags, belts, garments and other leather products. During his early days, Dilip Kapur went to the USA to do PhD in International Affairs and joined a leather factory in the USA as a part-time job.
After his studies, Dilip Kapur returned to Auroville and started making handcrafted leather bags as a hobby. His passion for leather made him begin his famous “Hidesign” venture with a two-person artisan workshop with an investment of Rs.25 000. Hidesign became famous among the tourists who visited Auroville and took the Hidesign brand to the nooks and corners of the world.
Hidesign generates Rs.170 crores gross turnover now, and the company now has 1400 employees with 102 exclusive outlets and 112 large departmental stores around the world.
Hidesign entered the hospitality industry in 2011 with two boutique hotels, Le Dupleix and The Promenade.
Le Dupleix:
Le Dupleix is located in the Casern St of White Town, Pondicherry. Le Dupleix Hidesign Hotel has a rich history behind it. It was the home of the French mayor of Pondicherry during the colonial period. Dupleix residence at Nehru street, Pondicherry, needed to be appropriately maintained, and it was falling apart. Dilip Kapur acquired the Dupleix residence’s woodwork at Nehru street to save the property’s heritage and restore it in the Le Dupleix hotel. He spends around one crore for the whole woodwork from the residence to preserve the heritage.
Le Dupleix hotel was built with the woodworks from the French governor Dupleix’s residence. Each room is unique as well as the woodwork. The historic French architecture needed four years to be restored, and INTACH assisted in bringing it back to its former splendour. Le Dupleix has a central courtyard open to the sky under the shades of an old massive mango tree. They provide French and contemporary Indian Cuisine.
The Promenade:
The promenade Hidesign hotel, located at the Promenade or rock beach, is famous for its sea view and is situated in the heart of the White town. The Promenade porch facing the sea is the best place to be in Pondicherry. The Promenade hotel has a lounge pool and in-house spa massage, making it the best place for your vacation.
